FEMALE 31yrs

31, mum of 2 young children.

Diagnosed march 2012 with approx 4cm acoustic neuroma

 Surgery, April 2012. Translabyrinthine approach

Following a period of one-sided hearing loss, tinnitus and dizziness and visits to the GP followed by scans and consultant appointments, I ended up having urgent surgery, lasting 15hours doing a translabyrinthe approach in April 2012 to remove it.

Thankfully all of it was removed, but unfortunately the surgery left severe facial nerve damage. My right eye doesnt work to close or produce tears and I have no facial expressions on the right either.

I'm left deaf on one side with tinnitus and one-sided balance. The balance is actually now pretty good unless I'm in certain situations and I'm now 7 1/2 months post surgery.

It really sounds like a cliche - but it really is life-changing.

I'm now so appreciative of every day and of living and I see much more positivity in life.

Of course I do have down days. Particularly relating to the effects on my face, but most of the time I just try to remember how lucky I am still to be here.

I have found great comfort from other AN stories - knowing you are not the only one out there who has these symptoms/experiences.
